ASA Scholarship 2015

The Alberta Snowmobile Association is once again pleased to announce two scholarship programs, which are available to ASA Trail Pass members. We are the Alberta member of the Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations (CCSO) and a member of the Western Chapter of the International Snowmobile Council (ISC).

The ASA offers a $2000 scholarship and the winner will be entered into the Western Chapter of the International Snowmobile Council, who offer a $2000 scholarship. These will be awarded to either a graduating senior from high school or a person who is currently enrolled in college. This will be given to the winner regardless of other grants or scholarships that the student might also receive.

To qualify for either program, the following criteria must be met:

The applicant must be a Trail Pass member of the Alberta Snowmobile Association as of January 1 of that scholarship year
The applicant must submit with the scholarship paper:
A cover letter
A resume including extracurricular activities
A summary of his/her involvement in snowmobiling including Trail Pass number
A transcript of his/her grade point average
The applicant must include a paper on the following subject
The essay should be a minimum of two typed pages, double-spaced using initial caps, Arial, font size 10 and the alignment should be justified.

This year’s scholarship essay is to be written with the following theme:

“You have been asked by the Alberta Snowmobile Association to meet with your Member of the Legislature at the Alberta Legislature to talk about snowmobiling. You have a fifteen minute appointment to emphasize snowmobiling and its related issues. What three points or issues would you emphasize with them and why did you pick these three points?”
Essays will be judged on depth of content, clarity, organization and persuasiveness.

Applications must be received by March 30, 2015. Send applications to:

Alberta Snowmobile Association, 11759 Groat Road, Edmonton, AB T5M 3K6

Any entries received after that date, will not be considered.

The Alberta Snowmobile Association will arrange for judging of the entries and will forward the ASA Scholarship winning paper to the Western Chapter Scholarship Chair for entry to that $2000 scholarship as well.
